Microsoft’s Latest Controversial Tactic to Draw Users Towards Copilot

It seems that Microsoft is once again employing questionable tactics to draw users to its own services. According to a report from Neowin, when you search for AI chatbots on the Bing search engine, which includes popular alternatives like ChatGPT and Gemini, you will encounter a special box displaying Microsoft’s own Copilot AI above the anticipated search results. If you decide to submit a message in this box, it opens Copilot in a new tab.

We conducted a test ourselves and were able to replicate the experience. When we typed “chatgpt” into the Bing search bar, a special Copilot feature appeared in the search results. It was labeled as “Your AI companion” and includes a field prompting users to “Message Copilot.”

There is a possibility that Microsoft is implementing this tactic selectively, perhaps only in certain regions, such as the US, or to a limited number of users.

If you don’t encounter this feature, consider yourself fortunate. For the time being, at least.
