If you currently use Microsoft’s Authenticator app on your mobile device as a password manager, there is some unfortunate news to share. Microsoft has decided to discontinue the “autofill” password management feature in the Authenticator app. Beginning in June, users will no longer be able to store new passwords within Authenticator. In July, the autofill function itself will cease to operate, meaning you will be unable to utilize Authenticator for automatic password entry.
By August, all saved passwords will be removed from the app, effectively ending this feature. However, there is a silver lining. All your stored passwords are synced to your Microsoft account, which ensures they remain accessible through other means. To retrieve your saved passwords after they have been removed from Authenticator, you will need to install the Microsoft Edge browser on your mobile phone.
Edge offers its own autofill capabilities, allowing you to continue managing your passwords seamlessly. Ultimately, while the change may require some adjustments, transitioning to Edge for autofill functionality can facilitate the retention and management of your passwords. It’s important to take note of these timeline changes so you can prepare accordingly.
