Discord is focused on enhancing user engagement through their advertising product, Quests. These come in two formats: Play Quests and Video Quests. With Play Quests, users can earn rewards by either playing an advertised game for a designated period while logged into the Discord desktop app or by streaming gameplay to at least one friend in a voice channel for the same length of time. Video Quests, on the other hand, require users to completely watch a designated video within the Discord desktop or browser app.
The rewards for completing these Quests are referred to as Orbs. Users can redeem Orbs in the Discord Shop for various items, such as Nitro credits, badges, avatar decorations, and profile effects. However, it is important to note that users cannot use Orbs to purchase gifts, recurring Nitro or Boosting subscriptions, or partner-branded shop items. Currently, the most significant advantage of earning Orbs appears to be the opportunity to experience Nitro without upfront payment.
As of now, the Orbs feature is being gradually introduced to select users globally. Over time, Discord plans to extend access to a larger audience, although details regarding a full rollout and the timeline remain uncertain. This initiative aims to create a more authentic and engaging advertising experience within the gaming community, highlighting Discord’s commitment to enhancing user interactions on their platform.
