The age-old dilemma of being stuck in traffic versus enduring a lengthy Microsoft Teams call may soon have a solution, thanks to a collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and Microsoft. The two companies announced that the new Mercedes CLA will feature Microsoft Teams integration, allowing drivers to participate in calls from the comfort of their cars.
Additionally, they are exploring the inclusion of Microsoft Copilot in their luxury vehicles, further blending technology and transportation. Mercedes-Benz revealed that the CLA will utilize an in-vehicle camera to enable Teams meetings, giving users the ability to connect with colleagues while on the road.
The integration of Microsoft Intune will also provide drivers access to confidential business information. This development is part of Mercedes’ MBUX, or Mercedes-Benz User Experience, which is set for an upgrade to MBUX 4.0 in the summer.
While this new feature may offer convenience, it also raises concerns around safety and distraction. The companies have assured users that safety is a top priority.
When the camera is activated for video calls, the video feed will automatically turn off to minimize distractions. Drivers will not see shared screens or slides during this time, and they can deactivate the camera at any point.
Moreover, the Mercedes interface will allow for chat functionalities, letting users dictate messages and access their schedules through a “Next Meetings” feature. In addition to Teams, the integration of Microsoft 365 Copilot is a noteworthy enhancement.
This technology aims to aid users in preparing for meetings by summarizing emails and managing tasks using voice commands, positioning the car as a productive workspace in addition to home and office settings. The 2025 CLA starts at $45,550, with additional features available through a regional Active Entertainment Package Plus subscription.
