Update Chrome 138 Now to Fix Serious Browser Vulnerability!

Google has addressed several vulnerabilities in Chrome versions 138.0.7204.183/184 for Windows and macOS, and 138.0.7204.183 for Linux. Importantly, none of these vulnerabilities are believed to have been exploited in real-world attacks as of now. Other manufacturers of Chromium-based browsers are expected to release their updates soon. Google also has plans to roll out Chrome 139 on August 5th, targeting a specific use-after-free vulnerability in the Media Stream component.

Notably, Google has not disclosed details about any internally discovered security vulnerabilities. Typically, Chrome updates automatically whenever a new version is available. Nevertheless, users can manually check for updates through the Help menu by selecting the “About Google Chrome” option. Additionally, Google has released Chrome for Android 138.0.7204.179, which addresses the same vulnerabilities found in the desktop versions.

As for other Chromium-based browsers, their manufacturers must now issue corresponding updates. Currently, Microsoft Edge, Brave, and Vivaldi remain at the previous security level before this Chrome update. Meanwhile, Opera is in a less favorable position; Opera version 120.0.5543.93 is still based on the outdated Chromium 135, which contains numerous security vulnerabilities. In the developer channel, Opera 121 has advanced at least one Chromium version, being based on Chromium 137.

However, it is expected to take several weeks before Opera 121 transitions from the developer channel to the beta channel and eventually reaches the release channel. This information highlights the importance of keeping browsers up-to-date for optimal security and functionality.
