Intel’s initiative to create a seamless connection between laptops and phones, known as Intel Unison, is set to be discontinued. The news came from Dell, which stated that the Intel Unison application will cease to function correctly and will not be available for download following June 30, 2025.
Earlier this year, Intel hinted at the discontinuation of the Unison app as part of a broader strategy to cut costs amid a downturn that has involved company layoffs and a restructuring of its manufacturing. This recalibration includes assigning its next-generation 18A manufacturing process for internal use only.
There was a trend among device manufacturers to enhance connectivity between mobile devices and laptops, with Intel Unison positioned as a more versatile alternative to existing solutions. Notably, Unison provided improved connectivity between Windows devices and Apple iPhones compared to Phone Link, which is available across all Windows PCs and not just those powered by Intel.
Despite the discontinuation, Lenovo has confirmed that its Aura PCs will continue to support Intel Unison throughout the remainder of the year. The specific models that will maintain this service include the Lenovo Slim 7 14ILL10, ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 Gen 10, and several others from the ThinkPad and Yoga series.
Intel had previously touted Unison as a critical element of its Evo program for premium laptops. While the Evo initiative appears to be continuing, the removal of Unison as a feature marks a notable change in Intel’s strategy.
