In 2025, the gaming landscape still presents challenges for Mac users. Despite having a centralized platform and access to numerous iOS apps and games, those who wish to play PC games on a Mac face significant disadvantages. There’s little room for playful banter here, yet it’s hard not to notice the gap.
As a thought experiment, I’ve selected ten notable PC games released this year without checking their availability on Mac. Here’s the list of games I picked: 9 Kings, Avowed, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Blue Prince, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, DOOM: The Dark Ages, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, Monster Hunter Wilds, Spider-Man 2, and Stellar Blade. Out of these titles, only 9 Kings and Assassin’s Creed Shadows are currently available for Mac.
While it’s worth noting that Avowed and DOOM are published by Microsoft, which has no incentive to support Mac, the situation is perplexing. Many of the games come from large publishers like Sony, Sega, and Capcom, who certainly have the ability and resources to port their games to Mac upon release if they wished to do so. Although Windows has its fair share of issues as a gaming platform, it still offers the best selection of games on powerful hardware.
For gamers seeking a wide variety of options, Windows remains the best choice. However, Mac users are not entirely shut out of PC gaming. Streaming platforms like Nvidia’s GeForce Now offer a viable alternative, allowing those willing to pay for a subscription to access a broader gaming library.
While the gap persists, it is good to know that there are pathways for Mac users to engage in PC gaming.
