Although the official deadline to transition is October 14, many users are already encountering issues as that date approaches. To prevent disruptions, we strongly recommend that your organization fully migrate to OneNote on Windows (OneNote M365) and remove the legacy application as soon as possible. This update will ensure you have access to the latest features, security updates, and an enhanced user experience.
What does this mean for you? It is important to note that OneNote for Windows 10 is no longer available for search or installation in the Microsoft Store. It has been replaced by OneNote for Windows, which will be the primary focus for Microsoft going forward.
Starting in June 2025, users will begin to notice delayed sync performance, which will impact real-time collaboration and access across multiple devices. By July 2025, in-app banners will start prompting users to switch to OneNote (M365), potentially disrupting your workflow. Eventually, the Windows 10 version will cease receiving updates and bug fixes, leading to performance issues and diminished functionality.
It is vital to understand that the end of support only affects OneNote for Windows 10. The desktop version for Windows 11, available with Microsoft 365, will continue to function normally. While you may still use either application for the time being, the Windows 10 version will face increasing challenges over time, particularly due to the lack of security updates.
Therefore, Microsoft strongly advises users to upgrade to the latest version of OneNote within Microsoft 365 as soon as they can. Alternatively, you could consider switching to other applications like SharePoint, Evernote, Google Keep, or Google Docs.
