- WooCommerce – it is a WordPress plugin required to run your online store.
- Time – to setup website and online store.

Step 1 – How to Install WordPress
When you host your website with a managed WordPress host, WordPress comes pre-installed for you.
Step 2 – How to Install WordPress Theme
There are more than 5,000+ themes in the WordPress directory.
You can choose to install from the most popular category or from the latest additions into the WordPress directory.
You also have a choice to use filters to drill down a theme based on your requirements.
You can drill down theme based on subject, features and layout. To get the best theme for your project.
For our process, we will install Astra theme which is one of the most popular WordPress themes of all time.
Select Themes from Appearance menu on the left hand side.
When you arrive on the theme’s page, click “Add New”.
Type “Astra” in the search box.
Install Astra theme.
Step 3 – How to Install WooCommerce
WooCommerce is the most popular online store builder in the market.
WooCommerce is the most customizable eCommerce platform for building your online business.
WooCommerce is fully customizable, open source eCommerce platform built for WordPress.
WooCommerce gives you the flexibility to sell any type of product you want.
Now, you need to install and activate WooCommerce plugin.
Select Add New from Plugins menu on the left hand side.
Type WooCommerce in the search field and search.
On the search results page, click on the Install Now button next to WooCommerce listing.
After installation is complete, click Activate to start the setup process.
There are two ways to create your WooCommerce store.
First option to quickly setup your WooCommerce store is to choose one of the starter templates provided by Astra theme.
Starter templates that you can use for your online shop are:
- Plant Shop
- Electric Scooter
- Inessa Perfume
- eGrow Plants
Second option to build your eCommerce store from scratch is to follow this guide.
To install Starter Templates, select Add New from the plugins menu on the left hand side.
Then, search for Starter Templates by Brainstormforce.
Step 4 – How to Setup Online Store with WooCommerce
We have already installed WooCommerce plugin. All you need to do now is to activate the plugin.
Upon activation, you will see the setup wizard to help you setup your store easily.
This setup wizard will help you setup important settings for your online store.
First thing it will ask you to enter is your store address.
Click continue button after you input your store address.
Now, you will land on the shipping page. Here you will have to add shipping costs for your country and for rest of the world.
After adding shipping details, click continue button.
You will land on Taxes page.
WooCommerce can automatically calculate taxes for your products.
You can also enter this information later.
Click on the continue button once you have completed this action to move on.
Now you will see payments page.
Here you will need to select payment methods for your online store.
Various payment methods supported by WooCommerce are direct bank transfer, check payment, cash on delivery, PayPal, Stripe, and WooCommerce payments.
You can add other payment options via third party plugins.
For the time being, I suggest to go with Stripe and PayPal Standard options.
PayPal is the most popular option to collect payments. To accept payments via PayPal all you have to do is to enter your PayPal address and click on the setup button to complete.
After finishing the WooCommerce setup wizard, you are now ready to adding products to your online store.
Click the Add New from the Products menu on the left hand side.
First thing you need to do is to add title and brief description for the product.
Make sure to add organic keywords to your title and description to get traffic from search engines.
Next you need to choose the product type.
Choose the product type depending on what you are selling.
WooCommerce allows four types of products.
- Simple product
- Grouped product
- Affiliate product
- Variable product
Apart from these you can also select if the product is virtual or downloadable.
Next you will enter regular price and sale price of the product.
Next you will add inventory details like SKU code, stock quantity, etc…
Next you move onto adding shipping details like weight of the product, and dimensions in centimeters.
Now you move on to next section to add linked products.
Linked products allows you to add similar products for upsells and cross-sells.
They help you increase your overall sales and profits.
Next you move onto adding product categories, product tags, product image and product gallery available on the sidebar on the right hand side.
After adding all the above product details you are now ready to publish and make your product live.
Repeat this process to add more products.
